ELAN e.V

For over fifteen years, the nonprofit ELAN e.V. in Germany's city of Oldenburg works to improve the quality of higher education. They initiate and manage IT-projects with eight partner universities and are consulting partners on modernization and digitization of processes in education. ELAN e.V. almost exclusively uses open-source solutions for reasons of digital sovereignty and dependability. Their work has become particularly important in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We believe our tools like ERPNext can help organizations reduce waste and complexity. Frappe + ERPNext has the potential to be a “full stack” replacement for not only ERP (SAP/Oracle) but also the entire enterprise stack (Java/.NET). Challenges

The move to ERPNext was initated by ELAN's Florian Feyen, who came to the organization in 2022, and was realized by the K&K Software AG in Gerolzhofen. Florian Feyen encountered a working but aged machinery, which worked but showed signs of wear. To make it future-proof, he decided to to move ELAN's processes into ERPNext, which he already encountered during studying. At first, he wanted to implement the system himself, but that was too big of a task for a single person. Particular challenges included the gradual move towards a new system without disrupting the daily operations and a link to the popular accounting software DATEV. It was also important to store any data in accordance to the GDPR.

Benefits

Thanks to ERPNext's modular and open framework, ELAN e.V. was able to fold ELAN's processes slowly and gradually into ERPNext. The implementation made sure that the system is easy to manage and to maintain. ERPNext's open API meant that DATEV could be integrated seamlessly, which is a common request in German countries.
